Lakshya is the story of an aimless young man who, driven by love and a budding sense of responsibility, discovers his purpose on the battlefields of Kargil, emerging as a symbol of youthful determination and patriotic sacrifice.
The story is a fictional narrative set against the very real backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War between India and Pakistan. It follows the transformative journey of Karan Shergill (played by Hrithik Roshan), a lazy, directionless young man from a wealthy Delhi family who has no aim or purpose in life. Through a series of events, he joins the Indian Army, where the grueling training and the eventual outbreak of war forge him into a courageous battlefield hero.
Lakshya is a masterpiece of storytelling. It is slow in parts, but deliberately so, mirroring the long wait and sudden bursts of action that define a soldier's life. It avoids the chest-thumping nationalism of many of its peers, opting instead for a story of personal discipline and sacrifice.
