Legality and Ethics

When you first run MAME4droid on your Android device, it creates a default directory structure.

The app will prompt you with a dialog box asking if you want to use the default storage routing or select a custom path. Choose . Close the app completely.

Ensure the file is still a .zip file and that you did not extract it. If it still does not show up, verify that you downloaded the 0.139u1 version and not a different MAME version.

: Always ensure you download from trusted sources to avoid malware or potentially unwanted bundled software. Some third-party APK download sites may flag the software as potentially malicious, though these flags are often false positives.

MAME4droid will ask if you want to use the default storage directory or create a custom one. Choose for the easiest setup.

: If you download a clone or regional variant of a game (e.g., a Japanese version), you must also place the original "parent" game zip file in the roms folder. Step 5: Launch and Play Open the MAME4droid app. The app will automatically scan your roms folder.
