The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive outside of North America, is one of the most iconic consoles of the 16-bit era. Released in 1988, it was Sega's third major home console, following the Master System and the SG-1000. The Genesis was a major player in the console wars of the 1990s, going head-to-head with Nintendo's Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
