The story follows Kavya Pratap Singh ( Alia Bhatt ), a feisty girl from Ambala who travels to Delhi to buy an expensive designer wedding lehenga before her arranged marriage to an NRI doctor. There, she meets Rakesh "Humpty" Sharma ( Varun Dhawan ), a carefree Delhi boy. Though initially at odds, the two fall in love through a series of adventures. The conflict arises when Humpty must travel to Ambala to convince Kavya’s strict father, played by Ashutosh Rana, that he is a better match for her than the "perfect" NRI suitor, Angad (Sidharth Shukla).
