In the early days of the internet, sending money directly to a stranger required trusting that stranger with the money. In the age of blockchain, that trust is no longer required; it is replaced by code. The XRP Ledger (XRPL), a platform known for its speed and efficiency, supports this function through its native "Escrow" feature. According to the XRPL documentation, this feature acts as a smart contract. It allows an entity to set aside XRP (and, more recently, other issued tokens) and dictates that the funds will only be delivered later when certain conditions are fulfilled. These conditions can be based on time limits or a cryptographic "preimage," a secret code that, when revealed, unlocks the funds for the recipient.
