When YMO toured the West in 1979 and 1980, Western audiences were stunned. At the time, electronic music was heavily associated with the cold, robotic, and minimalist sounds of European bands like Kraftwerk. YMO turned that stereotype on its head by delivering bright, colorful, uptempo, and deeply funky electronic music.
