, who is sent by a secret Vatican organization to Transylvania. His mission is to destroy Count Dracula

Though Universal Pictures originally envisioned Van Helsing as the launchpad for a massive franchise—complete with a television spin-off titled Transylvania —the lukewarm domestic box office put those plans on hold. Later attempts to revive the classic monster universe (such as 2014's Dracula Untold and 2017's The Dark Universe spearheaded by The Mummy ) failed to capture the unique lightning in a bottle that Sommers achieved.

The story begins in Paris, where Van Helsing and his tech-savvy friar sidekick, Carl (David Wenham), are dispatched to hunt the monstrous Mr. Hyde. Upon their successful return, the duo is sent on their most dangerous mission yet: travel to the remote, fog-shrouded land of Transylvania to destroy Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh).
