Verdades Secretas 1x2 succeeds in raising the stakes without resorting to melodrama. It is a quiet, creeping horror story about the cost of a dream. By the end of the episode, Arlete has signed the contract—metaphorically and literally—and the audience is left with the sinking feeling that she has sold something far more valuable than her image. The "Secret Truths" of the title are beginning to pile up, and the weight of them is starting to crush the innocence of the girl at the center of it all.
