REDCap is a browser-based, metadata-driven electronic data capture (EDC) software and workflow methodology for designing clinical and translational research databases. Developed by a small team at Vanderbilt University in 2004 who needed a HIPAA-compliant data collection tool, REDCap has since evolved into a free, consortium-based secure web application that supports online and offline data capture for research studies and operational activities globally.
