The story of the Kanteiryu font (勘亭流体 / かんていりゅう) begins in the vibrant and prosperous Edo period (1603-1868) of Japan. This was an era of peace, economic growth, and a flourishing urban culture, particularly in the capital city of Edo, which we now know as Tokyo. It was in this environment of bustling markets, theaters, and pleasure quarters that Kanteiryu was born.
